It's another tv show genre challenge. This time:
period!
Any tv show that is specifically set in a "realistic past" time counts. Shows that are set in the future go into the scifi category and don't count. Shows that add obvious fantasy elements, like Agent Carter or Timeless for example, don't count. The Americans, for example, were made in the 2010s but set in the 1980s. They count. Shows made in the 1980s and set in the 1980s don't count. Any time period that is set a sufficiently long time (say, at least ten years) before the tv show was made counts. It doesn't matter if the show has a fictional premise (e.g. a novel), as long as the world depicted is realistic enough for the time period. That means that Mad Men, Black Sails, or The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1984) all count. I'm sure we're all clear on things like Reign, Poldark, or Downton Abbey, etc etc. If not, ask and we'll try to clear it up together.
Most importantly: have fun!
